Here is how to hack the conference. Between navigating "the Sched" and trying not to #FOMO too hard, I will provide you with some tips and tricks to get the most out of your #CUE experience. An experience this is! I was warned that I would walk away feeling energized but overwhelmed but it doesn't have to be.

What to pack

Bring a light backpack with water and some snacks. Food is limited but your're not here to eat. Be sure you pack a charged device (small preferably). There is no need for notebooks or paper. Go paperless. Wear comfy clothes and shoes. You will be pounding the pavement to make it to see @MattMiller or @JonCorripo.

How to Prepare

You definitely want to download the Sched app or create a log in. I recommend using the app rather than constantly having to log in online. Pre-select your conference choices and then I recommend reading the descriptions ahead of time. As a TOSA I was conflicted by personal / professional choices versus those that supported my role. I wish I would have planned and balanced this out ahead of time.

Prepare a Doc

You will receive a TON of bit.ly and you will want to organize the information. Using a Doc like this can help you make meaning and process the mega load of innovative ideas.

Don't Overthink It

At the end of the day, there is no wrong choice.

You will leave feeling energized and inspired. If you have a PLN (Professional Learning Network), you will most likely meet these people IRL (in real life). I met many of the TOSAs from the @TOSAchat and @Gameboydrew. Many of your Twitter teacher celebrities will be there.

Hacks

Go to the booth with all the ribbons. You can deck out your badge with #CUEinc or Geek. Also be sure to hashtag and @. Lastly, if you can find a way to get in to the @flipgrid after party, go!

The Culture

Sticker swapping is a thing. If you don't have a set of your own, you can definitely load up on sticker swag. Also I would encourage to participate in all it has to offer, including Meet the Authors and get a signed book, Sticker Swap, Alludo CUE Game, #CUEhike and the #CUEYearbook. Overall culture is accepting and encouraging. In fact, one presenter said

"The smartest people in the room is... the room."

In other words, everyone there has something to give, something to share and the #edcamp culture supports this. You will no doubt leave with a multitude of ideas and a few handfuls of Twitter followers.

What you will see

Chances are your favorite pedagogical authors will be there along with many brilliant presenters that will be sharing the best and new strategies out there. This year it was all about personal PD and badging, #Booksnaps with Tara Martin, #eduprotocols with Jon Corripo and Marlena Hebern. These authors were incredibly inspiring. Needless to say, I came away with so many ideas and resources.

One of my all-time professional goals was to attend the CUE conference and it was such an amazing experience.
